My goal with every family session is to capture all the real moments that can easily be forgotten. The laughs, the smiles, the perfect moments that happen in a split second and interactions between families and loved ones are timeless heirlooms that I’m here to capture and share with you.
If you’re looking for some posed family photos mixed in with the candids, I got you covered. My style is 25% posed, 75% documentary, with prompts along the way. I will provide you with gentle guidance to help position your body in a flattering way, but I’ll always encourage you to interact with each other more than trying to look at the camera because we don’t want forced smiles.
From the moment we begin talking, I am ready to hear your story and genuinely care about capturing you and your family with utmost intention and care. At the end of the day, I am here to capture this entire journey of motherhood and family life WITH you.
An extraordinary family photography experience happens when we both come prepared and show up with a relaxing carefree atmosphere that’s built on a foundation of trust, fun, and adventure.

THE FAMILY EXPERIENCE
For sessions with the whole family, let me capture those perfectly imperfect moments that you’ll cherish forever.
The first 10 - 15 minutes usually is the warm-up, where we walk to the location together. I’ll let your kids play with my camera and teach them how to take a photo if they’d like, and then once we’re all warmed up, that’s when the fun will begin! I’ll capture all the moments - the uncontrollable laughter and breathtaking dress twirls only happen when we’re patient and let the moments happen naturally. I will typically take some candid/walking photos during the time when we are moving from one place to another.
These sessions have natural cues and I’ll adapt to the situation simultaneously by providing gentle guidance along the way. I have some prompts and tricks up my sleeve that are intended to evoke a variety of emotions, so get ready to be goofy and silly together - because those natural smiles and uncontrollable laughs are what we want to capture!
Whether it’s snuggling extra close, holding hands, tickles, telling jokes, twirling, whispering secrets, tossing kids up in the air, or playing with each other are all great ways to create breathtaking, memorable photographs that you’ll cherish forever.
Your children do not need to be “well behaved” or even have to look at the camera and smile, and neither do you. Come to the session with a kind heart, adventurous soul, and open mind. My job is to make the magic happen.

First of all, a great attitude goes a very long way. In my opinion, it's the most important part of customer service. Melanie only shows the greatest and most positive attitudes especially in a work environment. My experience with her was with my sister and her family photos. The venue chosen tho a little far, was WELL worth the scenery. The sun had JUST broken through the smoke screen we had for a couple weeks. Melanie captured incredible moment shots.

When we decided to do maternity and infant photos with Melanie we had no clue how great they would turn out! Never having done them with our first 2 kids we wanted it to be fun but casual but exciting....the experience was definitely all 3! Melanie did a perfect job of capturing the natural beauty of a park setting and of capturing each of our personalities in the photos she took. Our family isn't very comfortable in front of the camera and Melanie immediately made us feel at ease and helped us pose just enough to look pulled together but also really natural.
